RARE Afrika Islam 1990 Era U.S. T.V. Interview *Extremely Rare Kool Skool Exclusive*

More obscure stuff from the Kool Skool vaults, Afrika Islam "The Son of Afrika Bambaataa", best known as a Zulu Nation Sound System DJ in the Bronx Park Jams, and as one of the first Hip-Hop radio mix show DJs on his Zulu Beat Show, on 105.9 WHBI in New York. In the late 80's he went to L.A. as a emissary of Afrika Bambaataa and the Universal Zulu Nation to set up a Zulu Chapter there, and was involved in the legendary United Nations Hip-Hop Club in L.A. He is known for co-producing much of Ice-T's early music and member of his Rhyme Syndicate, and is today sill a touring DJ.

For a taste of what this Zulu King is best known for check out his early WHBI tapes here at the amazing old-school-hiphop-tapes.blogspot.com

Crips And Bloods: Made In America Documantary By Stacey Peralta

"I remember interviewing Skeeter Rabbit (R.I.P.) from The Electric Boogaloos, he was a very wise and cool guy. He was the first person that really explained the rise of the Crip and Blood dynamic to me. He said that after the Black Community Leadership fell apart through Government actions, Drugs and infighting, the space left was filled by Gangs populated by the Children of the Revolutionary movement. He also talked about the Southern Rascism that followed the Black Diaspora from the South. I was amazed, because I had never heard that side of the story, and it really makes you think about it in a different angle. The quote from the O.G. Blood member in the film, that many people in L.A. are living in "suspended animation", has a whole other meaning.

Unless you spend any time in L.A., or the Southern West Coast in general, it is really hard to understand how intrenched the Gang situation is, and that includes Gangs of all races. Crips And Bloods: Made In America is an excellent look at that situation by Stacey Peralta of Skateboard Company Powell Peralta." - Shucks One

The Kool Skool have previously looked at Gang Imagery in Hip-Hop culture.

Cazal Couture Part 2!

Cazal Couture Part 2

By an inter Planetary fluke we were working on an article on Cazal glasses when our brother Dynomite of BREAKS FOR DAYS BEATS FOR WEEKS beat us to it! So after letting him know (as biting is illegal, against the law), and in a show of B-Boy solidarity we decided to link the two! Here is part 2! Fooor you!

BREAKS FOR DAYS BEATS FOR WEEKS Cazal Couture Part 1

As many people are aware, Cazal were standard wear for true B-Boys & B-Girls, but since artists like Rick Ross, Mos-Def, Jay-Z, Kanye West have been sporting them of late, the prices are going through the roof on e-bay . The Kool Skool thought we would have a brief look at the hottest shades in Hip-Hop!

Kanye and the film Rocknrolla bumped the price up on these 858's!
