Thanks Ken for a Great Seminar!

York Muay Thai would like to thank Ken Sylvan for a great seminar on Nutrition, Training and opening up our knowledge to being effective athletes.

One thing Ken talked about was that at 4 weeks out (or 4 weeks until an event), you can't really build too much with your performance; You are pretty much at the point where you are working with what you got.

So for our advanced guys, you need to be training hard or at least consistently if you want to be able to participate in sparfests or fights. It's something we've been telling you all the time: you need to work if you want something, especially at the advanced levels. Now you have another perspective on this: you will end up shooting yourself in the foot as far as maximizing your performance if you're not working.
For everyone else, if you're looking to work your way up, or test, this is also important.

Camping Anyone?

I'm known to be a lover of the tropics, you might even say I'm obsessed....I was just thinking a few weeks back that I've been to many beautiful islands in the South Pacific but the Caribbean has eluded me, I must go! Well, what do you know I've stumbled upon a list of top ten affordable vacations and #1 was camping on St. John's in the U.S. Virgin Islands. (U.S. citizens can go sans passport)

It's amazingly affordable, said to be one of the most tranquil islands on earth and looks absolutely glorious (well maybe not glorious to all you surfers out there but for the pure rum loving beach bums it seems heavenly). Here's a link to Maho Bay Camps, an eco-friendly resort with seasonal rates ranging from $39 for campsites to $160 for super chic eco-tents and cottages, let's just say I'm in.

Batman Tattoos

Batman TattoosI think in response to a recent post here at the Bat-Blog, about Batman Tattoos, I got these in the mail from 2 different Bat-Fans. The 1st one is our new friend Jake. He got a Vintage 1970's Batman Comic Book Logo on his arm, it looks great! This has always been a favorite logo of mine, good choice Jake & it looks really well done! The next pic is from a cool guy named Andy who said he saw a Dude with a Batman Tattoo & had to get a photo for the Bat-Blog. WOW! Thanks for thinking about us, that's awesome! Here's a cool Bat-Tat that is kinda weird but not really once ya know the story. The guy said he got this to remember his dog who recently died. His Dog's name was "Batman". I think that's really nice. Andy also said that the guy told him that the cityscape in the background isn't Gotham City but it's Chicago, IL. Thank you very much Jake & Andy for sending these 2 photos to us, I appreciate that a lot. I also wanna invite any other Bat-Blog Readers to feel that they can send pics anytime, anything Batman-related! Thanks Guys!

David Simon's Treme on HBO - why television is kicking Hollwood's ass

For those of you who never watched The Wire - shame on you.
Shame, shame, shame.

I'm forever puzzled by people saying there's nothing good on tv.  We are living in a golden era of television with the last ten years providing us with some of the finest shows ever produced.

The Sopranos started it all and raised the bar all those who followed:  Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Dexter, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, The Office, Rescue Me, Mad Med, Breaking Bad - I could go on and on.

While Hollywood continued to focus on big-budget spectacle, television became a nurturing haven for brilliant writers.  The long-format of a broadcast season allowed writers to delve into controversial topics and breathe nuance and complexity into their characters.

I'd take this year's Breaking Bad or Mad Men over any of the Oscar nominated films of this year.  And as much as I like and admire The Hurt Locker, I have to say that Generation Kill did a far better job of shedding a light on the horrors and contradictions of modern-day war.

Which brings us to The Wire, which I consider to be the finest television series ever produced.  David Simon created a masterpiece of institutional dysfunction and the people who bang their heads against it every day.  Whether you're a cop, a senator, a teacher, a drug-dealer, an addict, a student, a journalist, or just someone trying to make it through the day, the overwhelming reality is that society is broken and those who try to swim against the tide get crushed.

And now Simon has a new series on HBO that only he could tackle - the intricate social, racial, artistic and political gumbo that is a post-Katrina New Orleans.

When Treme premieres in April, do yourself a favor - watch it.
