Yumi Ohka - Japanese Wrestling

It's been quite a while since I have done anything on Japanese female wrestler Yumi Ohka.
Yumi was born on April 4th, 1979 in Koga, Ibaraki and made her pro wrestling debut on August 19th, 2001 wrestling for JDstar.
She is currently wrestling for WAVE (Pro Wrestling Wave) along with GAMI, Moeka Haruhi, Shu Shibutani, Kayo Fujimori and a masked wrestler that looks oddly familiar, Sakura Candle.



Along with Yuki Miyazaki and Toshie Uematsu, Yumi is one of the few female wrestlers to hold the Dramatic Dream Team (DDT) Ironman Heavymetalweight Championship.
Yumi is also part of Misaki Ohata’s heel faction, Black Wave.

Takako Inoue Wrestling Mima Shimoda

Here is a wrestling match posted on YouTube by xkingx2009 with two of my favorite Japanese female wrestlers, Takako Inoue and Mima Shimoda.
Even though they are both awesome wrestlers, they do look a little bit like they just stepped off the set of the Power Rangers here.




Mutual dislike is not very well hidden, as they start off with a hair muss by Takako and a slap by Mima.

More slaps, chops and an Irish whip and the two lock up in the center of the ring in the classic test of strength.

That gets broken up and the two women launch into an exchange that shows just how well they are able to neutralize each others moves.

Is it considered a camel clutch if you are just sitting on your opponents back pulling her hair?

Well the ref makes Mima break the hold, but that's followed by more hair pulling, a hair-mare, and some rope choking.

I guess Takako gets tired of Mima's rule breaking, because when Mima tries to initiate another test of strength, Takako takes her hand...and promptly bites it!

But it doesn't take long for Mima to cheat her way back into control and take the match outside the ropes.
Mima even takes her out into the cheap seats and gives her a bodyslam on the concrete.

You have to love Mima though.
After leaving Takako on the floor, she goes back to the ring, climbs up on the turnbuckle and taunts her.

Takako climbs back into the ring, and Mima almost immediately leg tackles her and traps her in a Boston crab.

Not satisfied with JUST a Boston crab, she changes up to a single leg crab and pulls Takako's knee pad out of the way so she can get a better grip.

And all of that is not even half of the match!

After watching this, I am now convinced that Mima enjoys punishing her opponents more than any other wrestler out there.

Ayumi Kurihara Vs Mai Ichii - Japanese Wrestling

Here is a match between Mai Ichii and Ayumi Kurihara, posted on YouTube by xkingx2009.

Ayumi Kurihara was born on July 13th, 1984 in Tokyo, Japan and was trained by Mariko Yoshida, AKINO, Michiko Ohmukai and GAMI.
She made her pro wrestling debut on April 24, 2005 and has worked for wrestling promotions like AtoZ, M's Style, NEO, JWP, Jd', Ibuki and Pro Wrestling SUN.

Mai Ichii was born on March 21st, 1980 in Saitama, Japan.
Besides being a wrestler, she is a MMA fighter with a 4-4-0 record.

This match starts off with Ayumi taking the offensive with a series of drop kicks that some of which I swear look pretty "stiff" to me.

After pummeling the fool out of Mai, Ayumi straddles her and clamps on a camel clutch.

Mai manages to bite her way out of it....yes...bite.
Undaunted, Ayumi turns and clamps on a double toe hold which Mai tries to unsuccessfully bite her way out of.

Failing the biting escape, Mai makes the ropes and opens up with a few dropkicks of her own.
Getting Ayumi down, she goes for a leg lock which Ayumi reverses.

Mai escapes, there’s another flurry of moves and Ayumi comes out on top with a headlock.

Japanese Female Wrestling, Jaguar Yokota

Here is a picture of legendary joshi puroresu star Jaguar Yokota.
This also was posted by hugo999 at the Box y Lucha forum, again showing Japanese womens wrestling's appeal.

In her prime, Jaguar was considered one of the best wrestlers in the world, male or female.
And she held the belts to prove it.
She held the All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW) All Japan Junior Championship, the AJW All Japan Singles Championship, the World Women's Wrestling Association (WWWA) World Tag Team Championship (with Ayumi Hori), the WWWA World Singles Championship twice, the NWA International Tag Team Championship (with Hitomi Okumura), the Universal Wrestling Association (UWA) World Women's Championship, the TWF World Women's Title, the TWF World Women's Tag Team Championship (with Yuko Kosugi) and the AWF Women's Championship.
And in 1996, Jaguar Yokota was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame.

Well here is a kind of unusual video I found on Veoh of Cherry and Takanashi Masako wrestling Kana and Oikawa Chihiro.
The video was posted by apocalyptico77 and it happened at Union Night in Shikiba on 3-7-2009.
Why Takanashi Masako is wrestling in drag I have no idea (Shades of Santina Marella!).
Maybe someone out there can explain why he's doing this.
But if you kinda look past that, it's a pretty good match.
Of course any match Cherry or Kana is in is good.

Apple Miyuki - Japanese Wrestling

Japanese female wrestler Apple Miyuki (Rumi Miyuki), was born on June 14th, 1985 in Tenri, Nara, Japan.
She was a wrestler for Japanese professional wrestling promotion Kaientai Dojo and was one of their most popular wrestlers.
Apple was trained by Taka Michinoku and made her pro wrestling debut on January 14th, 2002, in Puerto Rico against another K-Dojo wrestler, Ofune.
So far Apple has held the WEW Hardcore Tag Team Championship twice with YOSHIYA, and they won the K-AWARD for Best Tag Match of 2005.
On September 10th, 2008, Apple announced that she was leaving K-Dojo and her final show was September 14th at Korakuen Hall.
She started working for other Japanese wrestling promotions like Pro Wrestling WAVE in 2009.

Candy Okutsu - Japanese Womens Wrestling

Retired female professional wrestler Candy Okutsu was born Tomoko Okutsu on January 16th, 1975 in Japan.
She made her professional wrestling debut on August 4th, 1992.
Candy worked for the JWP Project promotion from then until 1997, when she retired due to an injury.

She made her comeback on February 18th, 1998 when she had joined the ARSION promotion.
Candy became the first female version of Tiger Mask when she worked a few times as Tiger Dream.
She retired from pro wrestling on January 5th, 2001.
Before she retired candy held the All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling Championship once and the  JWP Junior Championship twice.

Chigusa Nagayo (長与千種) is a female Professional Wrestler best known for her popularity in the 1980s for her tag team The Crush Gals with partner Lioness Asuka. She was the founder of the GAEA Women's Professional Wrestling organization (known simply as GAEA) She briefly competed as alter-ego Lady Zero in GAEA and in the WCW.

Nagayo appears in the 2000 documentary Gaea Girls made for the BBC by Kim Longinotto and Jano Williams.

Nagayo & Lioness Asuka vs. Dynamite Girls on August 27, 1983 was named as the 1983 AJW Match Of The Year.
Devil Masami vs. Chigusa Nagoya on August 22, 1985 was named as the 1985 AJW Match of the Year.

Formed in the early 1980s, the Crush Gals were possibly the most famous and beloved women's tag team of all time. During the mid-80's they had three runs as WWWA World Tag Team Champions at All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW), and were pop culture sensations. They had several top 10 pop singles, and their main event feud against Dump Matsumoto's heel stable drew consistent ratings over 12.0 for AJW's weekly television program on Fuji TV. The feud was highlighted by events such as the first women's hair vs. hair match in Japan between Nagoya and Matsumoto on August 28, 1985, and a vicious run-in on September 10, 1986, when Matsumoto and her gang interrupted as the Crush Gals performed a concert in the ring, and proceeded to cut up Nagoya's clothes, leading to a second hair vs. hair match. The success and popularity of the Crush Gals inspired many young Japanese women to enter pro wrestling. Later in the decade, Nagoya achieved the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship, finishing Yukari Omori with a moonsault, on August 22, 1988. Nagoya lost the belt to her best-friend and Crush Gals partner, Lioness Asuka, on January 22, 1989, after a historic and emotional feud.

In 1989, Nagoya reached age 26, the mandatory retirement age for female wrestlers in Japan, at the time; however, she came out of retirement in the mid-90's to form GAEA Japan. She wrestled as one of GAEA's main eventers and top faces. In December, 1998, Asuka debuted in GAEA and played a heel, allying with Nagoya's rivals and winning the presidency of GAEA from Nagoya in their first match together in ten years, on April 4, 1999. Eventually, however, on December 27, 1999, the Crush Gals were re-united, and went on to win their fourth tag team championship together in spring 2004.

Mariko Yoshida (吉田 万里子, Yoshida Mariko?), (born February 15, 1970 in Onomichi, Hiroshima) is a professional wrestler best known for her work with the ARSION wrestling promotion, where she was also head trainer.

Yoshida debuted for All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW or Zenjo) on October 10, 1988 at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall in a match against Keiko Waki. Before her neck injury in late 1992 - which would cause her to miss two years of ring time - Yoshida was easily one of the best young stars in AJW, often showcasing beautiful Lucha Libre inspired aerial maneuvers to go along with her very good matwork skills.

In 1997, she left AJW to join Aja Kong's ARSION promotion, becoming their head trainer. There she was repackaged as a technical wrestling master, and was pushed as a major star. She has been nicknamed ARSION no Shinjutsu, or "ARSION True Heart". Forgoing the high-flying techniques of her run in Zenjo, her style in ARSION was centered around mat wrestling and submission holds derived from shoot wrestling, along with more elaborate lucha-inspired submissions.

In 2006, Yoshida was presented with the Cauliflower Alley Club's Future Legend Award, becoming only the second female after Cheerleader Melissa, to win this award.

Toyota soon recovered from the loss. In 1995, she won the AJW Grand Prix tournament, securing her position as the number one contender for the WWWA Championship. Before she received her title opportunity, she faced the legendary Akira Hokuto at AJW's Destiny show on September 2, 1995. On December 4, she finally received her title shot, and defeated then-champion Dynamite Kansai to become a two-time world champion.

Over the next 12 months Toyota made three successful defenses of her WWWA title. In December of 1996 she came up against long term rival Kyoko Inoue and lost in a match that saw the All Pacific and IWA Women's World titles unified with the WWWA Title.

On January 20, 1997, Tomoko Watanabe & Kumiko Maekawa beat Manami Toyata & Mima Shimoda to win the WWWA Tag Team wrestling titles.

However, the feud between Manami and Toshiyo Yamada was not yet over.
It reached it's climax on August 15th, 1992 at Korakuen Hall in a Hair vs. Hair match. The bout was a very dramatic one, but what made the event was what occurred after the match. Manami, even though she had won the match, did not want Toshiyo to get her head shaved, and had to be forcefully restrained by four preliminary girls, who eventually forced her back to the mat. In respect of the match conditions Toshiyo wanted her head shaved and went ahead with the stipulation.

Soon after this match the two women once again teamed up to win their first World Women's Wrestling Association (WWWA) World Tag Team Championship in March 1992, defeating "Jungle Jack" (Aja Kong and Bison Kimura) in Tokyo. At AJW’s Dreamrush shown on November 26th, Manami and Toshiyo defended their WWWA Tag Team wrestling titles against Dynamite Kansai and Mayumi Ozaki in a legendary two out of three falls match, which is considered one of the best wrestling matches ever.

In April of 1992 Manami furthered her singles career by defeating Kyoko Inoue on April 25th in Yokohama for the IWA World Women's Championship. Toyota defended that title eight times over the course of the next three years, before losing it to Reggie Bennett in Niigata Prefecture, Japan on May 15th, 1995.

At Dreamslam II, on April 11th, 1993 Manami and Toshiyo fought a rematch against JWP Project's Kansai and Ozaki in yet another highly-rated two out of three falls encounter. This time, however, Manami and Toshiyo were on the losing side, and Kansai and Ozaki got their revenge. The feud concluded at AJW’s St. Battle Final event, on December 6th, 1993, when Manami and Toshiyo regained their tag titles.

On August 24th, 1994 Manami once again squared off against Kyoko Inoue, and defeated her to unify the IWA and All Pacific Singles Championships. Manami’s run with the two titles was not to last very long, because on October 9th, 1994, Inoue gained a measure of revenge against Manami, when Kyoko and her partner Takako Inoue (no relation) won the WWWA Tag Team Championship from Manami and Toshiyo. Manami then vacated her All Pacific Championship, prior to her first WWWA Heavyweight Championship match against the monstrous Aja Kong at AJW’s Queendom III show, on March 26th, 1995. The match saw Manami reach the summit of AJW when she won and became the 39th WWWA Champion.

On May 7th, Manami defended her crown against arch-rival Kyoko Inoue at the Korakuen Hall, where the two fought to a 60 minute time limit draw. Despite piledrivers on the floor, German suplexes off the top rope, and multiple finishers, neither combatant was able to secure outright victory. Nonetheless, Manami retained, and the match was voted Match of the Year for 1995 in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The following month, Manami lost the WWWA Championship to former champion Aja Kong, on June 27.
