Open Mic w/Jonah Whalebelly @ Burro Bar 6/15
Click image to see the photo set. Photos by Tom P.
Last night I got a chance to head downtown to The Burro Bar and witness their Wednesday Open Mic Night. I believe this is actually their third week doing the event and are discussing changing it from the now weekly event to once a month. The line up was pretty impressive. There were a couple guitarist doing cover songs, a few guitarist played their own material and you had a few comedians. They usually played three songs or spoke for around ten minutes. I would have to say they all did a really good job and it made for a good night. The host Jonah Whalebelly keeps you entertained in between performances by being witty or telling stories about trying to get a cheeseburger and a cold beer from the American Embassy in Pakistan and seeing two Pakistani military soldiers spooning in the back of a Humvee.
If you are interested in going or performing I would recommend checking out their new facebook page to figure out when the next event is.
More info on Burro Bar open mic night.

Due to not wanting to give the surprise of the new look away I only added a few pictures. You have to come out and see it if you want to see more then a few shots. Click image to see the photo set. Photos by Tom P.
Today at 4pm there is going to be a ribbon cutting marking the grand opening of The Burro Bar. The bar is a product of the owners from Shantytown Pub, Lomax Lodge, and the guys from Burro Bags. This also marks the beginning of Bury Your Bike 4. The bar is located in the old London Bridge location.

Alvin Brown at Memorial Park 5/1/11

We at jaxscene feel this election is very important. As of today you can early vote till 5/17/11. PLEASE VOTE!!! It's really not that hard. It's a lot easier then losing your job or something you love about Jacksonville because the wrong candidate won.

Tour de Farm Visit To Black Hog Farm 4/10/11

On April 10th 2011 we decided to check out the Tour de Farm put together by Slow Foods First Coast. Tour de Farm is open to anyone that wants to learn more about local farming and see how the crops are grown and meet the families growing them. 24 farms participated in the events providing tours, workshops and even being able to pick your own crops right from their fields. We decided to visit Black Hog Farms because my family is involved in the Farm to Door program, which is a CSA (community supported argriculture) program. The CSA program allows local residents to order locally grow organic crops and have the farmers deliver them to you door.
In addition to this as part of the Slow Foods First Coast local restaurant Chew provided food for the guest using Black Hog Farms organic crops and hormone free animals. Also there was Intuition Ale Work providing the drink. Intuition has partnered up with Black Hog and Chew in the past. Intuition also provides Black Hog with with the spent grain from the brewing process as feed for their chickens.
